AP magazine Portraiture Photographer of the Year 2025

The Amateur Photographer Magazine is an institution, and being founded in 1884 It is also the World’s oldest weekly Photographic magazine.

Quite something in itself, but it is much, much more important to me than any historic superlatives.

When I was 14 years old and had a paperround I used to wonder how on earth I could ever be published in THE document of record for the Spalding Photographic society (my local camera club)

The classifieds were something to behold too, with an endless myriad of every kind of Photography nik-nak for sale that you can imagine.

Indeed I bought my first camera on there.

Fast forward several decades and I received an email telling me I had been named the Amateur Photographer of the year 2025.

Made all the more special that this is not an award you enter, you are just informed you have won.
